A Call to Christians for the New Year
As we enter a new year, we must keep our eyes fixed on the prize of Jesus Christ. The Bible says there will be distress of nations in the last days, with no way out. Man keeps trying to solve the problems of the world, but he always avoids the only answer: repenting of our sins and returning in our hearts to God. The Bible, in 2 Chronicles 7:14, says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
“If my people…” That is us, fellow Christians. That is not the Democrats, the Republicans, or the Independents solving our problems. We can’t wait for our leaders to repent and pray. Yes, we need to pray for them. But the call is to us as Christians, to “repent and pray.” It also says we are to “turn from our wicked ways.” As we enter 2012, let’s settle it in our hearts that we are going to be totally sold out to Jesus Christ. That we are going to be men and women of God and men and women of prayer. That we are going to pray for our leaders. That we are going to pray for ourselves and one another. And yes, as we turn to God in repentance, that we will pray as the Psalmist, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24.
